POSITIONS AND PRATICE – TOPIC 8 – FORUM

Audiences and institutions

Looking back to my edited pictures between 2012 and 2015 I clearly see that most of them abused of a stylistic effect common to that time: fading images to attempt a more vintage filmlike feeling.

Probably my desire was to please the social media audience I had at the time as well as to just follow the trends of photography as they were presented on the internet on Flickr and on most of the wedding albums I would see during those days.

It was so much that a few years later I added all my lightroom faded presets to George Orwell’s ‘Room 101’

Like Kounine said about his own photography of that period: “both the dark and light tones are shifted further into grey, which causes the image to lose clarity. It’s like looking at a great photo through a dirty filter”.

I have the same feeling today and I cannot understand why my taste led me to adhere to this trend.
